Thomas Frank claims support still in place after big win Champions League

The Tottenham boss is set to be given another chance against Burnley this weekend

Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank has revealed that support is still in place for him to continue on as head coach following a big 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.

Spurs continued their strong form in Europe, moving into the top five with only one game to go and maintaining their perfect home record.

Contrast to the league form, the North London club have been formidable against Europe’s best, extending their unbeaten run at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium to 24 games, the third longest streak in the competition.

But Frank is still staring down the barrel of a shotgun with his club’s form in the Premier League, which has them languishing in 14th, eight points off fifth.

Nonetheless, the Dane has bought himself the game against Burnley to try and get things back on track, and he was in an upbeat mood during his press conference on Thursday afternoon.

He said: “I think the support I think has been exceptional throughout the season. Not only, I know there’s a few questions about me, but it’s not about me. It’s about me, the staff, the players, the club.

“And that needs to be aligned and that direction and alignment is very clear from ownership to the board, to Vinai and Johan. Everyone is on the same page and there’s a lot of things going in the right direction. We just need to back it up with even more good performance and more good result.

“Had lunch with Nick and Johan again today. So I think it’s again a good sign of just that support there is. And we need to keep going.”

Injury concerns continue to mount

Last season under Ange Postecoglou, Spurs were ravaged with injuries, significantly impacting their ability to compete on all fronts.

It was for that reason that Postecoglou threw the towel in on the Premier League, and went all out to win the Europa League instead.

The injury trend has unfortunately continued for Spurs, and unfortunately for Frank.

He opened up on the situation, saying: “It must be close to my third year in the Premier League with Brentford, I also had a horrendous year which impacted massively the Premier League season unfortunately so this is definitely close.

“The Bergvall one, how unlucky is that? With contact injuries, there was Joao? Kudus? Some of them is like what is happening here, seems like we are cursed or something like that but injuries are a part of football. Next thing we can look at is how can we speed up the return to play.”

Tottenham will be without several players for the trip to Turf Moor, where they face former midfielder Scott Parker’s side on Saturday.
