England lost their opening ODI in Sri Lanka
England captain Harry Brook said his side had been “challenged” in “a lot of different departments” after losing to Sri Lanka by 19 runs in the first one-day international in Colombo.
Kusal Mendis hit 93 as England were set 272 to win at the R Premadasa Stadium, where Ben Duckett replied with 62 and Joe Root posted 61 to give Brook’s side hope.
A valiant last stand from Jamie Overton isn't enough ❌

Brook’s was one of eight wickets to fall for 84 runs, with the removal of Jamie Overton during a final-over chase of 20 consigning his team to an 11th straight ODI away defeat.

“We bowled really well through the middle and the spinners bowled exceptionally well,” Brook told TNT Sports, having seen Adil Rashid record 3-44.

“They got hold of us in that last over. They challenged us in lots of different departments. Unfortunately we lost a few wickets in quick succession and that always puts you on the back foot.”
The three-match series continues in the same setting on Saturday in England’s second match since their 4-1 series defeat in Australia.
Harry Brook is stumped 🙁
He departs for just 6 runs…
