On a day when the Premier League title race saw a huge result at Anfield, there were plenty of other big moments across Europe’s top leagues on Sunday.

In Italy, Inter Milan and Juventus were both in action, with the former travelling to Sassuolo, and the latter hosting Lazio in Serie A.

Across the continent in Germany, Bayern Munich faced Hoffenheim as they looked to strengthen their grip on the Bundesliga title, and in Spain, Atletico Madrid took on Real Betis before Real Madrid’s trip to Valencia.

Inter hit five at Sassuolo

Inter moved eight points clear at the top of Serie A with a 5-0 win away to Sassuolo. The hosts nearly scored immediately when Kone’s finish was cleared off the line by Federico Dimarco.

Inter then took control in the 11th minute as Yann Bisseck headed in Dimarco’s corner, before Dimarco crossed for Marcus Thuram to finish and make it 2-0.

Sassuolo thought they had a route back just before half-time, yet Thorstvedt’s goal was disallowed for offside in the build-up.

Inter pulled clear after the break: Lautaro Martinez scored from close range and Manuel Akanji headed in another Dimarco delivery. Nemanja Matic was sent off soon after for dissent. Luis Henrique added a late fifth with a half-volley,

Bayern thrash Hoffenheim

Bayern Munich beat Hoffenheim 5-1 at the Allianz Arena, though the match was far livelier than the final margin suggests.

The turning point arrived early when Kevin Akpoguma brought down Luis Diaz inside the area and was sent off. Harry Kane converted the penalty, but ten-man Hoffenheim still responded.

A misplaced pass from Manuel Neuer allowed Fisnik Asllani to set up Andrej Kramaric, who equalised despite the disadvantage.

Bayern regained control before the break. Diaz won another penalty, again finished by Kane, and then scored himself after being played through late in the half to make it 3-1.

Michael Olise set up Diaz for his second from close range, and the winger completed his hat-trick late on with a low finish from the edge of the box.

Atletico slip to narrow defeat

Real Betis claimed an impressive 1-0 away victory over Atletico Madrid, frustrating Diego Simeone’s side. The decisive moment arrived in the 28th minute when Antony collected Abde Ezzalzouli’s pass and struck a low left-footed effort from outside the area into the bottom-right corner, a rare clear opening in an otherwise tight contest.

Atletico responded with sustained pressure. Julian Alvarez, Jose Gimenez and Alexander Sorloth all tested Alvaro Valles, who produced a series of strong saves, particularly from close-range headers and crosses delivered by Koke and Antoine Griezmann.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Sorloth went closest with a point-blank header, while Griezmann saw efforts drift off target. Atletico thought they had equalised through a Diego Llorente own goal, only for VAR to rule it out for offside in the build-up.

Juventus rescued a 2-2 draw with Lazio through Pierre Kalulu’s stoppage-time header, extending their unbeaten home league run to 16 matches.

Lazio struck first just before half-time when Daniel Maldini robbed Manuel Locatelli and set up Pedro, whose low effort deflected past Michele Di Gregorio.

They doubled the lead moments after the restart as Danilo Cataldi released Gustav Isaksen down the right and the winger finished high into the net.

Juventus responded on 59 minutes, Weston McKennie heading in Andrea Cambiaso’s cross.

The hosts dominated the final half hour and, after several missed Lazio chances on the break, Jeremie Boga crossed deep in added time for Kalulu to power home the equaliser.
