Newcastle will look to improve on their dismal goalless draw at Wolves on Sunday when they face PSV Eindhoven at St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe’s side were a long way from their fluent best at Molineux and will have to perform better tonight if they want to enhance their chances of finishing in a top-eight position.

PSV are going great guns domestically with the weekend win at Fortuna Sittard their 13th on the trot in the Eredivisie, a run that has enabled them to open up a 16-point lead at the summit and, barring a dramatic collapse, they will be crowned Dutch champions for the third year in succession and 27th time overall.

They start the night in 21st place in the Champions League, a single point above the elimination spots and can’t afford to lose on Tyneside given they face Bayern Munich in their final fixture next week.
